The Board of Fire Commissioners annual election will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 2pm to 9pm at the Chews Landing Fire Station, 43 Somerdale Road, Blackwood, New Jersey 08012. Voters will be asked to elect one commissioner to a three year term. The candidates are Lawrence W. Grady and Nicholas Ritz. Voters will also be asked to approve the 2020 operating budget of $1,734,000.00, and to approve the joint capital purchase with Gloucester Township Fire District #4 of a fire engine for a cost not exceeding $710,000.00, and to undertake jointly funded lease purchase financing relative to the project. Gloucester Township Fire Districts #2 and #4 have a shared services agreement which combines their career firefighters to staff a fire engine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The 16 year old engine assigned to the program, known as Engine 88, responds to over 1,100 calls per year, and is in need of replacement. A yes vote will authorize the districts to jointly purchase a new engine, with all costs for the purchase, financing, use and maintenance of the new engine to be shared equally by the districts.
