*** COVID19 UPDATE
Unfortunately, as with many other businesses, our fire department has been impacted with the pandemic of COVID19. In an effort to minimize the spread of the virus and to maintain the good health of our employees and residents; as well as in accordance with NJ State mandates and current recommendations by the CDC, we have suspended Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections until further notice. In keeping with the current protocol of the State of NJ as well as various surrounding Fire Officials, we will be utilizing a Self Certifying Affidavit process in order to allow scheduled settlements/rentals to proceed in a safe and timely manner for all.
Attached below are documents for Self Certifying your property for fire safety. The affidavit and information sheet should be reviewed and the designated party must complete a detailed inspection of the property according to the information sheet provided, initialing where indicated on the affidavit and then having the document notarized, including commission stamp and evidence of seal. Once the affidavit is completed and properly notarized it should be returned with payment according to the pay scale at the bottom of the affidavit. Please note the pay scale is based on the number of business days prior to settlement that the affidavit AND payment are RECEIVED by our office. Affidavits may be mailed to: GTFD #2, Bureau of Fire Prevention, 43 Somerdale Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012 or dropped off in our “After Hours Inspection Drop Box” located on the front of the building by the entrance to our offices. ***Please understand that our station is on lockdown and no one will be admitted to the station for any reason until the threat of COVID19 has been lifted by the state.

Effective July 8, 2018 GTFD#2 entered into a Shared Services Agreement with GTFD#4 to staff a fire engine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This schedule will greatly benefit our residents with shorter response times for emergency calls and guaranteed staffing around the clock.
* Since the inspections are conducted by our career firefighters, inspections are sometimes preempted by emergency calls for service. A two hour time frame will be given for the crew to arrive at your property to conduct the inspection on your scheduled date.
Vacant premises may be entered by our Inspectors providing a lock box code has been provided at the time of application and there are no personal belongings within the property. Upon satisfactory completion of the inspection, 2 copies of the Inspection Certificate will be left on the kitchen counter. Absence of the inspection certificate indicates that the property has failed the inspection for one or more violations and that you will need to contact the Fire Prevention Office to Coordinate a re-inspection.
When completing the application, please ensure that your printing is clear and legible and indicate with an asterisk * which phone number we should contact for the appointment or should we have any questions.
While we strive to complete all of our appointments in a timely manner, our first priority will always be emergency services protection. All of our inspectors are active, career firefighters responsible for responding to emergency calls-this may cause a delay in the timeliness of your appointment. You will be notified at our earliest possible convenience about rescheduling your inspection should your appointment be missed due to a fire call.
